Summary

🌶🌶🌶🌶🌶Exactly the same rating as book #1 except with even MORE hot and spicy scenes。 Great romance, great FMC and MMC, but plot is a bit slow and I wish she would develop the other characters more。

Cute, I preferred these to "From blood and ash", both in terms of story and characters, but the variation of my evaluation is 0。5 points, so we are on the same wavelength。 Also in this case there is more romance than strategy, perhaps the action and twists you expect in a 500-pound book are missing。 At the end of the readings, you are also satisfied, but you realize that nothing happened。 I think Amentrout is good at talking about nothing in many words because both books lack plot, events, twist Cute, I preferred these to "From blood and ash", both in terms of story and characters, but the variation of my evaluation is 0。5 points, so we are on the same wavelength。 Also in this case there is more romance than strategy, perhaps the action and twists you expect in a 500-pound book are missing。 At the end of the readings, you are also satisfied, but you realize that nothing happened。 I think Amentrout is good at talking about nothing in many words because both books lack plot, events, twists。 Many pages but in the end she didn't say anything, it's not the first nor the last that she does this thing, but after a while you risk losing the will to go on, like, for me, the fourth book by “From blood and ash”。 Sure something happens, but it's not enough to sustain the plot。 There are 500 pages per book of which 200 are superfluous。 Maybe writing them in one book and making it a duology would have been better, but that's the same thing I said about 'from blood and ash'。 One thing that left me confused was the smut, as it was always repetitive, in the sense that I skipped parts because they were always the same or similar。 I would therefore have saved pages of repetitions。 That being said I don't let it pass off as a book of shit。 The world building wasn't bad, I liked the secondary characters and the enemies were more or less interesting。 I liked the two personal characters, both have a development, both personal and in relation to each other, especially in the second book, even if the battle falls into the background。 I wasn't crazy about using modern language when we're talking about kingdoms and monarchies, but it's something of mine that I just can't imagine in this context, like insulting yourself in front of the king or the fact that she wears leggings。- I'm about to write something that contains a spoiler of the second book, not particularly important and if you read it, I don't think ruin the saga-Having said that, I have some questions that I don't understand: 1。 Ector is dead or not, I simply missed this one what, it's a curiosity, I don't want to search the whole book on the internet again, since it took me forever to retrieve it the first time already。 2。 You figured out he didn't believe a single word you said, why do you keep using the ember, you want to get attacked then。 3。 is connected to point two。 Once at the end of the book you were attacked by A。 and K。, and you realize that he betrayed you, why didn't you use the ember like you did against the nymphs or N。? By now you were there, everyone knew it, at least you hurt them。 4。 This is a question that maybe there is an answer to but I didn't get it anyway: if N。 ascends her, and he has all the ember of life, why doesn't he bring it back? I didn't understand this part and I hope you have a coherent answer even if I don't understand。 5。 Last thing: I wanted to ask if this is an adaptation of the myth of Hades and Persephone, which I suppose and there is no harm in not reality。 But it was just to know since there are too many coincidences, that is, the river is called Lethe, he is the God of death and she has life in itself。 I mean, I'm convinced it's done on purpose, but I'd like confirmation。 One thing I can't understand is the connection between the 2 sagas, in the sense, I know it exists and it's also mentioned, but I can't understand how the characters are connected。 。。。more

I enjoyed the characters and their growth, once I got into the middle I realized nothing was really happening, overall for a 600 page book not much happened。 Lots of analyzing of internal feeling which got boring after a while。。。 "i'm not good enough for him。。。。" "why am I like this"。。。。 there were some good plot points but it was a long journey。Super spicy romance mixed with fantasy。 I enjoyed the characters and their growth, once I got into the middle I realized nothing was really happening, overall for a 600 page book not much happened。 Lots of analyzing of internal feeling which got boring after a while。。。 "i'm not good enough for him。。。。" "why am I like this"。。。。 there were some good plot points but it was a long journey。Super spicy romance mixed with fantasy。 。。。more

Just loved it!! At first I thought it was more or less the same than Of Blood and Ash, but the story and the characters (Nyktos and Sera are EVERYTHING) made me fall in love with the history。 I’m lookin forward to read the next book on December!!!

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 This book was really good。 I liked the plot twists but predicted most of them。 I saw someone said that the middle was kinda slow/boring and I agree with that。 Although there was dialogue and events it wasn’t as good as the beginning or end。 In the very last chapter when kolis is taking her blood and she says that she is sotoria i feel like I knew it would come to that as a last resort。

So, I really don't know how to start describing this book。 I think I found one of my favorites books。 The write is exceptional, the drama is amazing, the characters are lovely, so many good things to say about this book。Firstly, NYKYTOS please be mine, I BEG YOU。 Yes, you broke my heart with Vesses, I cannot say what you did, and despite I know the truth now, I was really hurt by what you did。 Secondly thing I have to say is about Sera, I think she is my favorite character, no just in the saga, So, I really don't know how to start describing this book。 I think I found one of my favorites books。 The write is exceptional, the drama is amazing, the characters are lovely, so many good things to say about this book。Firstly, NYKYTOS please be mine, I BEG YOU。 Yes, you broke my heart with Vesses, I cannot say what you did, and despite I know the truth now, I was really hurt by what you did。 Secondly thing I have to say is about Sera, I think she is my favorite character, no just in the saga, but in everything, she's lovely, passionate, fearless, strong, and she deals with her anxiety in a way that I have jealous。 She didn't let her problems interfere in what she had to do, and because of this, I really love her。 But I love spicily because she had all the reasons to hate Ash, but she didn't, she understood and loved him。NEKTAS you're amazing, thorough and handsome that I hope to see more about you in the bone and ash books。 Including Jadis, OMG, she's so cute。 And I hope Reaver can find her and see more of the two in the saga。 The three indeed。 About Koli, I HOPE YOU BURN IN HELL, YOU SON OF A BITCH。 And that is all。One bad thing about this book is I was really excited to see the lupines, but nothing yet about that。 But OK, I can deal with。 So please, read this book, I can assure you that you'll love it。 。。。more

Okay I usually don't review books but my head is exploding over this one and I needed to get it out。 I spent a week reading the Blood & Ash books and I love it so when they ran out and I started Flesh and Fire。 And HOO BOY if the prequel isn't even better than the original。 (Contains A Shadow In The Ember spoilers!)CHARACTERSIf you've read A Shadow In The Ember then you know the characters already but I'm gonna talk about my favorites anyway because I adore them。The heroine Sera is, of course, f Okay I usually don't review books but my head is exploding over this one and I needed to get it out。 I spent a week reading the Blood & Ash books and I love it so when they ran out and I started Flesh and Fire。 And HOO BOY if the prequel isn't even better than the original。 (Contains A Shadow In The Ember spoilers!)CHARACTERSIf you've read A Shadow In The Ember then you know the characters already but I'm gonna talk about my favorites anyway because I adore them。The heroine Sera is, of course, fierce, but she's also brave and determined。 Although she's been kept in a metaphorical box all her life she has found a way to still determine her own fate, and that continues to be her journey in this book。 She has recognized that she could never had fulfilled her duty regarding Nyktos, but when she realizes her duty is something else, she focuses on that; over time, though, she allows herself to want things for herself that have nothing to do with her supposed destiny。 And that's a scary thing for her because she knows that if she allows herself to want, it will be that much more painful if it gets ripped away。 But she admits it to herself anyway。 She also is able to see her value and release her mother's power over her。(Plus, can I just say, body positivity? Honestly reading this book helped me love my own body more。 Thank you a million times, JLA。)“For the first time in my life, I felt like I was more than a destiny I’d never agreed to。 More than the embers I carried within me。I felt like…more。” As much as I adored the main characters in Blood & Ash, I could not believe how much I loved Nyktos/Ash。 He's strong and silent but he has a way about him that makes you take him seriously and makes you realize how strong he is。 He's thoughtful and considerate in everything he does; He doesn't mince his words and he's deliberate and straightforward when he speaks。 And I have to agree with Sera that whenever he says "liessa" I feel lots of things and they're all good。“I want to kiss you, even though there is no reason for me to other than I want it。” The heated intensity of his stare held mine。 “I would even go as far as to say I need to。” Nektas is another beautiful character, almost avuncular but so tender and kind and wise。 He seems to know everything and is delightfully aloof with how he shares his knowledge。 But he's also a real friend to Sera, despite her actions, despite what she believes she deserves, because he can see to her heart。 Not to mention he's such a fan of Sera and Ash and so supportive of them, which is just heartwarming。 He's a wonderful dad to Jadis and guardian to Reaver。。。 overall I think we all could use a Nektas in our lives, honestly。“Forgiveness benefits the forgiver, and it’s easy。 Understanding is acceptance, and that is far harder。” And what a fantastic villain。 The specter of him hangs over for three quarters of the book so that when we finally meet him, I was so on edge, sure that something awful was going to happen。 We hear all about him and we know all the cruel and horrible things he's done, but when we get him alone I almost felt for him? (that might be messed up but more on that in the Spoiler section)。 Anyway his motives made sense, and isn't that the best kind of villain?PLOTI liked the plot。 The main plot follows Sera and Nyktos as they deal with the realization that Sera is effectively a primal and will die of her Culling, try to find a way to save her while also saving the realms, and defeat Kolis。 So they kind of have a lot to do。ROMANCELet's be honest, this is why we're reading it isn't it? The chemistry between Sera and Nyktos was incredible。 There were so many steamy scenes but they were so varied that it didn't feel at all repetitive。 Some felt spicy, some felt soft and tender, some felt tragic and some just left us wondering。 But what a beautiful romance to follow。 There is almost a stereotypical romance trope (character walks in on something that looks bad and the other character doesn't explain), but it actually wasn't even the trope, because rather than one character refusing to listen to the explanation, the other character doesn't even offer it。 Overall the romance follows a steady pattern with some dips but a beautiful depiction of two characters coming to genuinely trust and care for each other。SETTINGThe world was great, it felt well-thought-out and immersive。 Love the maps that JLA provides, even though the maps aren't always exactly what's in the book。 The creatures that inhabit the world are unique and creepy, the customs of the people are creative, the politics and the races are interesting and。。。 overall it's great。WRITINGJust like the rest of this series, there is a lot of infodumping - understandable when the MC is dropped into a new world they're totally unfamiliar with。 But it's done well, interspersed with great banter that doesn't make it feel like an infodump。 There were some good action scenes as well as some quieter, character-bonding scenes - and of course, steamy scenes。Some of the writing was a little repetitive and reminiscent of the main series, like the running gag about the MC having "so many questions"。 But the description and dialogue was spot on - I was able to see exactly what was happening in my mind。 And as for spiciness, JLA BRINGS THE HEAT。 AMAZING。The only major thing was that some of the explanations didn't make sense to me。 A character would explain something and Sera would act like it made perfect sense but I just couldn't follow the logic or see how it explained anything。 It was only a few times, on a few minor things, and each time I was able to just move on and let it go, but it left me wondering if I was missing something vital。Also, the characters use some modern slang that feels out of place and in a few years will definitely feel dated。 I didn't care for that very much。OVERALLOverall impressions were that the characters were amazing, plot was good, worldbuilding was great, representation (LGBT, BIPOC, body positivity, mental illness) was great, steam and romance was AMAZING, writing was great。 I literally could not put this down。Okay now for my personal ramblings and processing of this book!SPOILERS AHEADFirst things first - oh my god, Sera and Nyktos make my heart melt。 I spent the whole book wondering how they were going to have Sera survive - because obviously she survives and becomes a kick-ass Primal。 And obviously it's going to be Ash's love that saves her (as this is a Romance series)。 But how can that happen? He had his kardia removed。 So how will that happen? From the way he acts, cares for her, is willing to put her in front of his friends and his court and himself, will do anything for her。。。 He was willing to fight the fates and the oracles to protect her。 What is love if not that? It certainly sounds like what Holland and Penellaphe said was needed。 I don't know how love can get more real than that。 I mean everyone keeps talking about how love is unexpected and doesn't follow the rules and does unexpected things。 So maybe he loves her anyway? Maybe their connection is so strong that he loves her in spite of his missing kardia? Or maybe it's because they're heartmates? (Which I fully believe they are)。 But really I think maybe Sera's special life-giving and HEALING powers maybe have healed his kardia without anyone realizing it? I can't see how else that can play out。Also, I have to say, that last scene, after Sera and Ash have just left the oracle。。。 that BROKE me。 I was left literally heartbroken。 I was devastated for both of them。Okay now I have to talk about Kolis。 He's horrific and cruel and abhorrent, yes, there's no arguing that。 But that very last scene when he kind of reveals he's doing all this so he can find his love (who, yes, is afraid of him)? And then he realizes that Sera is Sotoria, and he cradles her and rocks her? I kind of saw him in a whole new light。 I mean obviously I'm disgusted by him and his actions (especially regarding his treatment of his Favorites), but it makes me interested in seeing more of him, especially to see what he does with Sera/Sotoria。Also that last image of Ash waiting in the moonlight in his wolf form gave me shivers in the best way。Some predictions -(1) Sera will use Sotoria to manipulate Kolis, just like Holland said her destiny was。 Ash will keep an eye on her in his wolf form, but after seeing how soft he is towards her, he lets her carry out her plan。(2) Ash and Sera will go to her lake to get the embers out of her and it will be tragic and angsty because they'll think she's going to die but he's going to will her to stay with him with his love and it's going to be just so wonderful and make me cry in the best way。(3) There's going to be some sort of war with the Primals and they're going to go to Arcadia and Ash's friends are going to replace them, as we saw in Blood & Ash。(4) I don't know if we'll see the birth of the twins and Sera and Ash going to sleep - that seems like a lot to pack into one book。 Plus having them go to sleep would seem like somewhat of a sad ending to me and I just want to be left with them together and happy and in love for a while。 I want them to get a happily ever after, okay? Sue me。I just have so many thoughts on this book and waiting until December might actually kill me。 Please, JLA, have mercy on us。 。。。more
